Pakistani Girl Got Shot
Pakistani girl got shot In the last century, women empowerment movements swept across Europe clamoring for gender equality. The successful struggle granted girls and women the right to education in many countries. Nevertheless, until today, the blessing hasnt reached Pakistan. Falling into the shadow of Taliban, universal education is nothing more than a pipe dream to many girls there. Malala,a 15-year-old activist who promoted women's right to education in Pakistan was shot in the head by Taliban militants on her way home on October 19th.Despite being swiftly sent to a hospital in Britain, the life of the young heroine was at stake. The heinous attack sent shock waves through the nation and fanned up the indignation of the international community. ââ¬Ë believe while international community should fght against the Taliban militants ,the Pakistan government and people are responsible for the tragedy Mingled with rage and appal,' found the case of Malala was Just the tip of the iceberg i n Pakistan. ââ¬Ë condemn the unforgivable acts of the Taliban militants and believe theInternational community shall counteract these subversive beasts at all costs. Education is a universal right and nobody should be denied access to it. lt is never confine to a gender or race. Therefore, for the sake of Justice and peace,The international community should follow the Taliban millitants to the end of the Earth while giving profuse support to the victims. The Pakistani government, though menaced by the Taliban militants, should not watch the battle with folded arms. Apart from lives and properties,a responsible overnment should safeguard the rights and freedom of its people.Education, without doubts,is among the basic rights. Sadly to say,the education system in Pakistan is still a crawling toddler. People languish at the bottom of the world literacy list due to the fact that the government drains away immense resources on military defense. Without the government's sincere support of education for its people,no wonder terrorist suppression on girls' education remains unchecked for ages. In addition, the deprivation of education of many girls has much to do with the vicious ocial practice in Pakistan.Girls drop out of school early to Join parents at work while some are married off as teenagers. consequently, girls could not climb up the social ladder when they grow up and poverty haunts them for good. The lack of support from parents is also a decisive factor favoring the Taliban's crackdown on education. To save countries like Pakistan from miseries,' hope the international peacekeeping values. Last but not least, may Malala and other victims speedy recovery, may education become universal and may the world a long-lasting peace.

Cabling and Factor Tools Essay
When choosing cabling for a network, there are several factors to consider: cost, Expansion capabilities, bandwidth, signal attenuation, and EMI (Electro- Magnetic Interference). Each type of cable has different specifications that affect these factors, and each organization has different needs. Considering Cable system factors is very important for building a network system that meets an organizationââ¬â¢s needs. Now in the design of the installation of your cabling a poorly designed or installed network cabling set-up can reduce network performance. Today, data centers are growing and maturing, and cable management is becoming an important consideration. Proper cable management allows the fast identification of all system connections both at the physical layer and at the documentation level; good cable management also improves the maintenance of hardware equipment and the installation of new one; and finally, structured cabling management makes possible the effective cooling of the data center. You also have to consider fire and safety issues, for where you will be installing the cables. How they will be run throughout the building, will the cables be near other electrical cables and can it cause interference. Will the cableling be properly used under standards and local codes? And if not what would have to be done in order to makes sure itââ¬â¢s all up to code, and fire safety inspections. Some of the tools that will be needed for your installation will be Crimpers, Wire cutters/Stripper, Cable ties, Punch-down tools, voltage dectors, testing tools for when done. Also it would be smart to have a drill and bits/paddle bits, pliers, gloves, flashlight, and a tape measure. These are just a few things that would be useful to have. Prev Page Next Page Search

Plan for auto company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Plan for auto company - Essay Example Competition is expected from other companies that will come up with other means of fighting the environmental pollution that is brought about by motor vehicles releasing toxic gasses into the environment. Competition is also expected from other industrial players who will start producing products that are similar to Pollution Solutionââ¬â¢s Emission Filter. With the introduction of the companyââ¬â¢s product in the market, competitors will start producing similar goods (Calantone, 2004). The company has a competitive edge because it is the pioneering company that has come up with a product that will play an important role in ensuring that emissions from the motor vehicles has been impacting the environment negatively. The organization projects rigorous marketing so that the target population becomes aware of the existence of the product. The company will use both print and electronic media to reach out to the target population. The target population is of people who would visit motor vehicle dealerships and spares shops and hence, some media will be used in these areas to reach out to the target population. The emission filter will be made available to the target population through good pricing. However, distributors will be used to distribute the product. Large scale distributors will be given a credit policy where they can buy large amounts of the product and distributes for them to pay back later. The individual customer however cannot access the credit facilitie s (Calantone, 2004). The organization has a well developed team that is working towards ensuring that the product is a success in the market. This means that the organization has put in place a marketing team that will ensure that the organization is successful in the short term and long term objectives. The marketing team will be headed by professional marketers who will ensure that they use the right

Exploring the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility on customer Research Proposal
Exploring the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility on customer buying behavior - Research Proposal Example According to Zhang (2012:34), studies sponsored by the US Department of Commerce in 2012 showed that there is a positive correlation between an excellent understanding of consumer needs and good financial performance in American corporations. However, studies also show that there is a need go deeper by examining the specific factors that allow businesses to predict or even manipulate customer behavior (Rosengren, 2013:47). One such factor is CSR, and it has become a core aspect in the observation of consumer behavior. The academic context of this topic revolves around previous research and the need to expand the breadth and scope of previous and current research (Mermod and Idowu, 2013:36). There is still a vacuum in the study of the relationship between CSR and customer buying behavior. This paper aims to fill that vacuum. The novelty of this proposal lies in describing an ignored or unexplored body of scientific material on the relationship between CSR and customer buying behavior. There is a large body of empirical material that pertains to the topic but is yet to be brought to the fore (Mermod and Idowu, 2013:16). This paper will examine that material and also provide possible new perspectives on the subject. The research will employ a descriptive research design because it is the most suitable for examining relationships between phenomena. Descriptive research methods such as observation, case study and surveys will be used to collect data, and then the relevant analysis tools ââ¬â SPSS ââ¬â and other statistical methods will be used to analyze the collected data. Findings will be presented using common methods like charts (pie charts), tables and graphs. The research will consider common research issues like bias, confidentiality and ethics. Bias will be avoided by using open-ended questions in the surveys to eliminate the possibility of appearing partial. Participants will not only be assured of the confidentiality of the information of their

HR Training class Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
HR Training class - Essay Example e management must evaluate; who needs the training, where the training should happen, when the training will happen, why the training should happen, as well as, how it would happen. To accomplish this, the management must conduct analysis-using information that relates to the organizational goals and objectives, jobs and other tasks, which the employees need to learn, competences that the employees must possess to execute their duties effectively, as well as, the employees that the human resource should train. An effective needs assessment, program would help the management to direct resources to the areas that have the greatest demand. The needs assessment, program should help in addressing the needed resources as far as customer service is concerned. It should as well help in evaluating the needed resources as far as enhancing productivity, achievement of organizational goals, as well as, improvement of the quality of goods and services are concerned. A needs assessment in customer service entails identifying the gap between what the human resource expects from the employees and the actual performance, as far as customer service is concerned. Needs and assess ment, therefore, helps in closing the gap. The assessment within the small retail business would include three levels, which this paper will justify their need. The first level is organizational assessment. Organizational assessment determines the current performance of the organization, as far as, offering quality services to the customers is concerned. The assessment will help in identifying if the employees possess the right skills, abilities, knowledge or competencies in customer service. The assessment helps in solving problems present in customer service. Different businesses have different customer service needs. For example, a manufacturing company would have different customer service needs compared to a retail business. This reflects the importance of assessing the needs. In other words, it would

All quit on the western front Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
All quit on the western front - Movie Review Example uous young men that exist on the frontlines of defending their nation, the soldiers, along with Paul, are represented as ghostly figures that exists from day-to-day; facing the ever present reality of death and seeing the untold horrors of war firsthand. As the film progresses, the realization that a hopeless situation has been engaged further depresses these men (Burgess and Heilbrun 55). In short, aside from the ability to take orders and to perform some level of useful work, the entire humanity that is represented within the men on the frontlines begins to fade. This fact is represented clearly with regards to the emotions and expectations that are illustrated throughout the conversations and interactions that Paul faces as the movie progresses. The monotony of horrific trench warfare, disease, death, hardship, starvation, and misery all come together to form a very depressing view of just how horrific war, and specifically the First World War, could

Critically analyse and evaluate (Human resources) Essay
Critically analyse and evaluate (Human resources) - Essay Example This fact appears to contradict the real significance of this department as evident in many business organizations. Human resource functions and decisions ought to drive positive performance gains in terms of personal efficiency and financial gains (Becker & Gerhart, 1996:782). The procedures by which HR functions and decisions develop sustainable value are intricate and difficult to fully comprehend. Instruments such as the resource based view are critical in evaluation of HR significance. Resources which are uncommon, unique and valuable can offer sources of sustainable competitive edge. Many people have argued that, HR practices no matter the uniqueness can not be fully relied on to offer a competitive advantage since they can be copied. Nevertheless, a point noteworthy is that effective human capital has the capacity to contribute largely to the development of a sustainable competitive advantage (Wright, Dunford, & Snell, 2001:704). Professionally crafted strategies which are deeply entrenched within an organizationââ¬â¢s structure are not easy to imitate. This is because, it is not easy to fully comprehend the real approaches through which interaction between HR practices and procedures accrue value. Without the capacity to understand the interacti ons between elements of an intricate system, it is just impossible to imitate it. The resource based view remains to be considered a fundamental factor contributing to the intangible and hypothetical development of human resource study (Kirsch, 2007:3). Despite the contradicting perceptions regarding HR practices and function, the truth is that organizations that invest on innovativeness and unique HR practices will always testify to its benefits as both of these articles

Financial Institutions & Markets Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Financial Institutions & Markets - Essay Example What happened was, banks are known to financed their mortgage lending using customer deposits which of course is a limit to the amount of mortgage lending they can do. But in recent years, banks in a bit to fund additional borrowing, moved to a new model where they sell mortgages on the bond markets which was widely seen as an easier means of funds. But this form of borrowing led to bank abusing that incentive to carefully check mortgages they issued.1 Banks saw the business to be extremely profitable since they could earn a fee for each mortgage they sold and went ahead to urge mortgage brokers to sell more and more of these mortgages. The market soon extended especially as the private sector dramatically expanded its role in the mortgage bond market that was previously dominated by government-sponsored agencies like Freddie Mac. Prices became so high to an extend that if the boom had to continue, many US populations would have been evicted from their homes since the US interest rates too were interestingly high. The fall in housing prices affected the wider economies. The Standard & Poorââ¬â¢s/Case-Schiller index in March 2008 showed that housing prices in the US had fell by 11,4% in January and 8,2% in February 2008.2 In a bit to cushion the US economy from the worst effects of the credit crunch and housing slump due to the sub prime loans, the Fed in January 2008 had to cut down interest rates from 3.5% to 3% for the fifth time since September 18 2007 and today at 2.25%. This was in a bit to encourage consumption among Americans. The economic growth rate had slowed to an annual rate of 0.6% between October and December, half the rate forecast and compared with a brisk 4.9% growth rate in the previous three months due to the credit slump and may further be cut to 1,5%.3 To ward off the pressure of slower economic growth, the Bush Administration and Congress moved ahead to agree on a temporary

The British Way of Town-making Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
The British Way of Town-making - Essay Example The elements which have influenced Egyptian, Chinese and Islamic architecture will be explored. The influence. The elements which compose places will be explored with regards to urban design. The influence of philanthropic organizations on built constructions. The philanthropic organization which will be discussed is the Prince of Wales Foundation. Introduction To each individual, a town represents a variety of concepts. It may be the place of residence or occupational endeavors, a town may also represent a public policy structure. These concepts are implicit, especially today when many residents of the United Kingdom reside in a municipality of some classification. A town may be perceived as a collection of edifices surrounded by a park which form a silhouette with the sky. A town may also be perceived as a political structure which is composed of constables and a cul de sac. What are the characteristics of a village? If an area is established as a town, what are the factors that in fluence its development and how long may the locality be designated a town? This becomes a subject of deeper inquiry. The responses have been clarified by archaeologists who discuss the attributes. (De La Bedoyer 1992). The concept of town in the society which has been demonstrated from the legacies of the Graeco- Roman civilization continue to exist today. In Britain, there is a pronounced distinction from the oriental, central and southern regions of the landscape. There has been a geographical dividing line which is characterized as ââ¬Å"Fosse Wayâ⬠. The manner in which a town develops is equated with the environment in which it inhabits. Greece has been administered by the city- state government in where cities administered their suburbs. The city and the land which composed it became the elements of a constitution system. The same phenomenon occurred in the formation of Rome. Rome became the geographical capitol of Italy. The fact that the location of Rome enabled the fo rmation of a military system. The location of Rome also enabled the sense of citizenship and community which was expressed in the Senatus Populus Romanus which is translated into the Senate and People of Rome. Rome was acknowledged as ââ¬Å"the Cityâ⬠(De La Bedoyer 1992). Discussion The construction of municipalities is one of the most recognized accomplishments of modern society. Cities have always been demonstrative of the conditions of the society in which they partake. This demonstration is manifested by the number of decisions which must be made by its inhabitants on a daily basis. In some situations, these decisions have become integrated to synthesize the perspective of clarity and form which is worthy of what has been conceived. It is the premise of concept which enables the additional comprehension of the implications of these choices. These concepts may be applied to the formation of cities in the present day. This perspective will explore the motivations of these c hoices as they have transpired in the history. The external factors which have caused the formation of cities will also be examined. The changing nature with which cities have been conceived and their synthesis will be explored. The aspiration is to dissipate the concept which has been traditionally perceived, that the cities are a unique phenomenon which occur outside of the scope of consciousness of its members. The members of these cities

Macro economic problems of sri lanka and maldives
Macro economic problems of sri lanka and maldives Introduction Human needs and wants can be fulfilled through production of goods and services. Production can take place with the help of factors of production, which are inputs into the production, such as land, labor and capital. So production and distribution of goods and services, in order to fulfill human needs and wants directly and indirectly, is known as economy. According to Barro (2008), economy is divided into micro economic environment and macroeconomic environment. Micro economy is about economic behavior of specific individual, firms and the distribution of production among individual industries. Macro economy is mostly focused on total production, productivity, rate of employment, consumer prices, incomes of households and net import and export of a country. In this project we will focus mainly on macro economic problems such as inflation, income, unemployment, etc and trends over ten years of economic growth experienced by Sri Lanka and Maldives. And moreover the policies used by government of both countries throughout these ten years to sustain their economic growth at a favorable level. Economic growth shows the changes in real gross domestic product over time. The business Cycle Constant economic growth is not experienced by any country. For each and every country, if we observe the path of economic activity, it can be seen that there are deviation or fluctuations. At times these fluctuations will lead the economy into a more favourable position while during other times it could lead to a more devastating situation. These fluctuations in the economy are known as business cycle, and consist of periods of contraction, trough, expansion and peak. The fluctuations in the economy are usually measured in real GDP and other macroeconomic variables (Delong Olney, 2006). Source: www.imf.org Figure Business Cycle Diagram 1 above shows the business cycle for Maldives and Sri Lanka for the years starting from 1998 to 2008 measured in GDP at constant prices. As can be seen in diagram 1, both the economies of Maldives and Sri Lanka were experiencing a period of contraction from the years 1998 to 2001. After reaching to its lowest in 2001, the economy of both nations started to recover and was flourishing until the natural disaster, tsunami, left a huge impact on the economy of Maldives. However with the aid of other nations and the govt. economic policies, led to a record high economic growth rate. The economies of both countries again are facing a period of contraction from 2006 onward. This may be due the downturn in the world economy. These stages of economic downturn and prosperity shown in the business cycle are explained in more detail below. 2.1 Contraction Trough Contraction starts once the economy reaches its peak and further progress becomes difficult. When the economy reaches to its peak, economic growth starts to slowdown, as there will shortages in the economic resources (Dornbusch, et al.2008) The increasing prices, wages and interest rates would eventually halt the demand for the output and reduce the level of sales. The reduction in sales means that firms will now be holding excess supply and will reduce production and will focus more on selling their excess output. The decline in production will result in fewer amounts of resources being required by the producers. Since the producers now have a pile up inventory they will reduce purchases from suppliers. As the production of output reduces, firms will no longer require the service of some of their employees. Firms start to lay off some of their employees, starting the fear of unemployment among the labor force (Blanchard ,2009).This fear for a hardship for the future will encourage s aving. The reduction in consumer spending will lead to lower profits or even losses for the businesses. Some businesses will even go bankrupt discouraging further investments. In the contraction period the national output starts to decrease as well as prices and incomes and unemployment begins to increase(Delong Olney, 2006). The contraction stage for both countries is in the same period as per diagram 1. The economies are experiencing contractions from 1998 2001 and 2006 2009. Trough Trough is the lowest point of the contraction where the economy takes the turn. At this point countries would have unemployment rate at its highest, inflation will be low and the national output will also be at its lowest. There will be unused capacity within the economy although investments will be less due to high uncertainty towards the economy (Chamberlin Yueh, 2006). 2.1.1 Maldives During the past ten years, Maldives had experience two periods of economic contractions. These were during the periods of 1998 2001 and 2006 2008. Figure For the contraction in Maldivian economy from 2006 to 2008 the annual percent change in real GDP had decreased from 17.98 to 5.84(Figure 1). This was mainly due to the adverse effects on tourism during this period because of the world financial and economic downturn. The fishing industry, the other major contributor to the Maldivian national output, had also declined during this period as the oil price had risen during these years. The rate of inflation was on the rise mainly because of the increase in import prices, oil prices and rise in wages of the public sector as well as the large increase in government expenditure. The rate of unemployment rate is not known for all the years due to lack of data, however, for 2006 the unemployment rate stood at 7.9 percent. 2.1.2 Sri Lanka Sri Lanka continued on an economic expansion path in 2006 showing a record of 7.4 % which was the highest since 1978.This growth arose mainly from the service sector which grew to 8.3 % during the year and this contributed the highest at 62.6 %. In Contrast the growth rate in 2007 and 2008 declined compared to 2006 which was recorded at 6.8 % and 6 %respectively. Growth rate in agricultural sector (5.7%) in 2007 was moderate due to drop in production of major crops like tea and paddy, but performed well in the first half of year 2008.Industrial sector maintained a growth over 6 % till first nine months in 2008 but declined to 5.9 % in the end. This was due to global slowdown. Unemployment rate dropped substantially to 6.5 % during 2006 and continued its declining trend and dropped to the lowest rate of 5.2 % in 2008.This was mainly due to increased employment in the agriculture and construction sectors and increased in self employment. In 2006, during the early years Sri Lanka experienced a decelerating trend in inflation, which was mainly due to high monetary expansion as well as high government expenditure and borrowings. In 2007, CPI moved in an upward trend increasing to 15.8 %. This was due to terrorist disturbance in the paddy producing areas, bad weather conditions and high demand for rice due to high price in substitutes, and also high price of domestic agricultural commodities. Also due to rise in global oil and gas prices adjustment to some commodities were needed. Also, shortage in global supply and increased in demand in international commodity market caused to raise the price of major imported food commodities. Inflation reached to its peak in mid of 2008 to 28.8 % and declined significantly to 14.4 %, mainly due to the continued tight monetary policy measures by the Central Bank and the sharp declined in the international commodity prices .The increased in CPI was also fuelled by the low supply of domestic agriculture products and also high price in the international market of some imports. Meanwhile, increased in electricity charges which caused to raise price levels was also attributed in increased in inflation. 2.2 Recovery / Expansion Peak Recovery phase of business cycle comes, if government makes good decisions and productive capital investments during the period of trough or recession. In the phase of recovery economy starts to get its position and gross domestic product starts to expand instead of getting worse. Effective physical and monetary policies by the government at the time of recovery would help the economy to gear up the economic activities and establish again until it reaches to peak. In other words it is also called as expansion period of economy. Expansion occurs after an economy reaches to its previous favorable position (Blanchard ,2009). During the months of expansion it is the best time for investment and it is well-known golden time for stock market investors. When an economic expansion occurs stock goes up more than at any other time. During an economic expansion, demand for the goods and services are increased as consumers feel certainty in the economy which leads to increase their spending. More spending in the economy encourages further economic expansion such as increasing productivity, improve standard of living, and reduce unemployment by creating lot of job opportunities in the economy (Dornbusch, et al,2008). When the economy reaches its peak, the output of the nation will be at its highest, investments, inflation and incomes will be high and unemployment will be at lowest. Firms will enjoy a higher profit in this period. 2.2.1 Maldives The economic situation of Maldives was improving throughout the years from 2001 to 2006. During this economic prosperity the annual percent change in real GDP had increased from 3.45 in 2001 to 17.98 in 2006(Figure 1). Figure The major contributors the Maldivian national output, the fisheries and tourism sector had prospered during this period (figure3). Although at the end of the year 2004 the nation was almost swept away by the tsunami, the destruction faced to the economy was eventually put on track with the help of foreign aid and government investments in rebuilding the infrastructure of the country, thus aiding the growing construction industry in Maldives. The total government expenditure and revenue for this period shows just how much the economy was prospering (figure 4). Figure Annual percent change in Govt. Revenue and Expenditure The changes in unemployment rate cannot be clearly seen due to lack of data; however the number of expatriate workers had vastly increased. Unemployment rate had increased from 2000 to 2006 from 2.3 to 7.9 percent. Since, Maldives is heavily dependent on imports, any changes in the world economy has a huge impact on the domestic price level. Inflation rates largely reflect the world economic trend. 2.2.2 Sri Lanka In the year 2001, global recession and low rain fall caused to face an economic slowdown throughout the year; agriculture (-3%), Industry (-2%), Services (-0.5%) and Sri Lanka experienced a negative growth rate of 1.4 percent for the first time after 1948.As a result of favorable international environment, peace process and sufficient monetary policy, the economy of Sri Lanka recovered and recorded growth rate of 4 percent in 2002 and it accelerated in 2003 to 5.9%. Mainly growth was achieved through service sector. Due to the adverse shocks, increase in international oil prices, drought, floods and tsunami disaster at the end of 2004, annual growth had fallen to 5.4 percent. Shortage of supply in agricultural products cause inflation rate to push upward recording 14.2 percent of average inflation in 2001. Tight demand management policies by central bank, increasing number of controlled prices and expansion of domestic production cause reduction of inflation rate to 9.6% in 2002 and 6.3% in 2003. Consequently, the factors used to stable the price level are related to supply side of the economy, drought and import price of key commodities generated cost-push inflation. And average inflation rate turn unfavorable to 7.6% in 2004. The slowdown in both economic growth and investment expansion during the year 2001 and 2002 resulted increase of unemployment rate marginally to 7.8% and 9.1% respectively. Economy recovery, mostly in service sector, and employment opportunities under the policy of new government, unemployment rate was declined in 2003 and 2004. Increasing countrys external reserve, expansion of external factors and recovery of export shows an overall surplus balance of BOP in 2001, 2002 and 2003, well below the target. In 2004 there is an adverse balance on BOP because of raising reserve money caused expansion of domestic assets and reduction of net foreign assets. Macroeconomic Policies Sustainable economic growth is achieved by utilizing the monetary and fiscal economic policies efficiently. Monetary policies are mainly focused on controlling the money supply within the economy through the use of instruments such as controlling interest rates, reserve requirements, exchange rates, etc. Fiscal policies are aimed at influencing the aggregate demand in the economy by using tools such as taxation and government spending (Delong Olney, 2006). 3.1 Maldives To maintain stable economic growth, the central bank of Maldives, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) employs various monetary policies. One of those policies is to maintain a stable exchange rate to have price stability in the country. The instrument used to achieve this was to maintain a Minimum Requirement Reserve (MRR), MMA CDs, T-Bills, Repo Facility, Lombard facility and Rediscount facilities. These tools are used to control the money supply within the economy. When the economy moves into a contraction period these policies aim at increasing the money supply within the economy. For instance, when the economy faced a contraction in the aftermath of tsunami, MMA increased the money supply by selling T-Bills to finance the large investments of the government and the MMR was reduced thus, increasing the money supply in the economy. When the money supply increases and interest rates fall, the consumer spending increases increasing the demand for goods and services. However, in recent years, especially during 2008 and 2009, monetary policy instruments were mainly used to provide short credit facility to the government leading to rapid increase in money supply resulting with a high inflation and a shortage of foreign exchange. 3.2 Sri Lanka During the year 2001 Sri Lanka experienced a negative economic growth rate since 1948. To recover and achieve a high economic growth, Central bank started and continued to use fiscal consolidation process, increasing public investments, strengthening debt management and restructuring public enterprises. More over efforts were taken to reduce recurrent expenditures, setting up low interest rates hoping to reduce interest cost. Countrys total external reserve increased and stabilized the exchange rate enabling the central bank to purchase foreign exchange from the market. To improve domestic rupee liquidity central bank purchased foreign currency and shifted entire interest rate structure downward. In order to avoid cost push inflation, government increased the number of controlled price level. All these policies led to speed up economic growth of the country at the end of 2002. And to maintain this growth, government continued fiscal consolidation policies and tight monetary policy. A nd to gain a sufficient surplus balance on BOP some imports were controlled by imposing marginal requirements against letter of credit. In 2007 fiscal debt and public debt continue to improve despite the lower revenue collection during the year. These were achieved by rising defense expenditure, domestic interest rates, tax and duties. Government was able to reduce deficit financing from domestic banking sources. Government opted to switch more external borrowings in response unpredictable and rising domestic market interest rates. Conclusion As we observe economic trends of these two countries, both countries had fluctuations on their economic growth. As two countries are developing countries, fluctuations on their economy are mainly related to world economy. Reflections of natural disasters are the second major factor that caused slowdowns in the economic growth of these countries. Terrorist attack on 11th September 2001 and Tsunami disaster caused economic downturns for both countries. During the periods of recession and contraction, the central banks used several policies to recover their economy. Even though central bank of Maldives uses only monetary policies to sustain their economy, government of Sri Lanka used both fiscal and monetary policies to retain their favorable economic position. france business :: essays research papers
à à à à à Studying and understanding different cultures of the world, is an integral part of successfully communicating internationally. This paper will examine three case studies evaluating communication styles in France. The focus will be on McDonaldââ¬â¢s France, Euro Disney, and Accor. These three cases all involve a lack of effective communication and understanding of French Culture. French Culture à à à à à In order to examine these French communication case studies it is important to understand the French culture. The French are characterized as having a very high level of uncertainty avoidance, but ironically change their minds quite frequently. The French are also very characterized as a very individualistic culture, meaning that everyone is only supposed to take care of themselves and their immediate family. These characteristics will be seen throughout the case studies, especially the uncertainty avoidance factor. McDonaldââ¬â¢s France Case: à à à à à McDonalds has opened franchises all over the world, little did they know that breaking into the French market would be such a challenge. McDonalds is a global corporation that is now tailoring its food, and entire dinning experience to fit local cultures. à à à à à At first, the French were not very receptive of McDonalds invading their country, and were very reluctant to indulge in the high fat, fast food. Culturally it was different from anything they had ever experienced before. Initially French McDonalds were replicates of American McDonalds, serving the same menu with the same structural layout. The French traditionally enjoy lingering over their meals, and creating a dinning experience as opposed quickly consuming a large amount of food. These factors led to a slow start for McDonalds in France. à à à à à The French were also very concerned about the high level of fat contained in the traditional McDonalds menu. This became a huge communication problem, especially when protests started picketing several McDonalds in France. McDonalds France Solution: à à à à à These problems have been handled by having McDonalds France Public Relations Department giving several press conferences, as well as, distributing several press releases. Since the Problem spans the entire country, high level McDonalds executives are communicating with the public. This communication does not end with high level executives; the message has permeated throughout the entire organization. The managers of individual franchises are very proactive to address and resolve the problems McDonalds has been experiencing. They choose to use the several forms of media that are most likely to actually reach the average McDonalds consumer, news paper press releases, press conferences that could be aired on the local news, and a new advertising campaign.

Internet Users Should Practice Self Restraint :: Argumentative Persuasive Argument Essays
Internet Users Should Practice Self Restraint The generation of the 90s, the information generation, or better yet the generation-X, has been plunged into a world of computers. To survive, each individual must have knowledge of and feel comfortable with the computer; a scary word and a frightful system to those not acquainted with it. The Internet is the essential application that needs to be grasped. It is the information network of the future. However, the variety of people using it is as vast as the world around. Hence, this is a community that is truly the world's largest melting pot, bringing people together from all ends of the world. The Internet becomes a social structure and with any social structure, it has its problems. Today, one of the rising problems with the Internet is that most people have their entire lives on the system; hence they are potentially exposed to all types of criminals. All addresses, phone numbers, credit histories, and sometimes even photographs can be found through the net. As in the real world, even in the Internet, women seem to be in a vulnerable position because they are the least protected by stalkers, kidnappers, murderers and psychopaths in general. A point, in fact clearly demonstrated in the movie "The Net", starring Sandra Bullock who was chased down by the government through the Internet. Although, many times the individual can remain anonymous and separate from all biases and prejudices, they still have all their information stored for it to be pried into by any clever hacker. Another vulnerable group constitutes children; lawmakers and concerned citizens worry about them being exposed to "adult material" on the Internet. At times it is as if their first priority becomes protecting these children from pornography, offensive material and often times just extreme view points. A downside to focusing so much attention on pornography is that often people are just fueling the curiosity of those they are aiming to protect. Although regulating the Internet for children is beneficial, often the regulations also encompass college students, who need a free hand to travel through this medium. This protection from "adult material" often restricts the learning process and prevents them from fully experiencing the Internet. Recently, lawmakers have attempted to set guidelines for the Internet. This poses a problem in itself because the Internet is a worldwide system. The rules that are placed must be agreed upon across the globe. Stereochemistry: Addition of Bromine to Trans-Cinnamic Acid
STEREOCHEMISTRY: ADDITION OF BROMINE TO trans-CINNAMIC ACID Required Prelab Readings:McMurry Chapter 5, Sections 8. 2 & 21. 2 Morhig, Sections 7. 1 and 7. 3. Previous techniques that you must know and be able to perform: Suction Filtration and Melting Point This experiment is designed to demonstrate two concepts. First, it will provide a demonstration of how chemists can use chemical reactions to understand reaction mechanisms. Second, is the concept of multi-step synthesis. You will be performing the following reaction: Isomer IIsomer II + Enantiomer+ EnantiomerBrominetrans-Cinnamic Acid2,3-Dibromo-3-phenylpropanoic acid MW 160 g/molMW 148 g/molMW 308 g/mol bp 60 à °Cmp 133-134 à °Cmp 93-95 à °Cmp 202-204 à °C When an electrophile, such as bromine, adds to an alkene, the addition can be done in a syn fashion, in which the two groups add to the same side of the molecule, or in an anti fashion, in which the groups add to opposite sides of the molecule. Depending on the mode of add ition, syn or anti, and the stereochemistry of the starting alkene, various stereoisomers will result. In some cases, a racemic mixture of products is formed, other times a meso compound is produced. Feature Article ââ¬âà Free-Radical BrominationThe Fischer projections shown above are two possible stereoisomers that could form in the bromination reaction that you will perform. One is the result of a syn addition, the other is the result of an anti addition mode. Note that each would form as a racemic mixture, (+). You are to determine, based on the melting point of your product, which pair of enantiomers is produced. By knowing which enantiomeric pair is formed one can predict a plausible mechanism. Hint: you can predict the stereochemical outcome of a syn vs. anti addition of bromine to alkenes before you step foot into the laboratory. The simplest example of a multi-step synthesis is to examine virtually any commercial medicine. Almost without exception that medicine was prepared by a series of reactions rather than in a single step. A multi-step synthesis generally requires a chemist to perform a chemical reaction, isolate, purify and characterize the product and then use that product as the starting material for the next reaction. You will be using the product of this reaction as your starting material next week. It will be important for you to have the product from this week properly identified so you can correctly predict the product of next weekââ¬â¢s reaction. The most time-consuming part of this experiment is setting up the glassware. Be sure all fittings are tight, well-greased, and clamped so as to prevent any escape of bromine vapors into the laboratory environment. An actual set-up is provided for you in the lab for you to look at. ? You will need to set up the apparatus as shown in figure 7. 4 a on page 63 of Mohrig. NOTE:You are responsible for calculating the amount of trans-cinnamic acid (in grams) equivalent to 4à mmol. You must have this done before you enter the lab. HazardsMolecular bromine is extremely toxic and corrosive; its vapors are damaging to the skin eye and respiratory tract. Wear gloves and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AR E YOU TO REMOVE THE BROMINE STOCK SOLUTION FROM THE HOOD. Only remove your bromine solution in the stoppered funnel. Sodium thiosulfate reduces Br2 to Br-1. When working with Br2, always keep a bottle of 5% sodium thiosulfate handy for rinsing the skin in case of contact. Experimental ? Assemble a 50 mL round-bottom flask with a Claisen head, reflux condenser, and addition funnel. Into the round-bottom flask, add trans-cinnamic acid (4 mmol) and 10 mL of methylene chloride.Add a stir bar. ? Obtain 4. 0 mL of a 1. 0 M solution of bromine in methylene chloride in the addition funnel. Attach a heating mantle and variac and heat the mixture to a gentle reflux. The variac setting should initially be 25-30. Adjust this setting as necessary until the solution is refluxing . ? While it is refluxing, add the bromine solution at a rate of two drops per second. You need not loosen the stopper on the funnel for the bromine addition due to the high density of methylene chloride. The red-orange c olor of the bromine should dissipate as it reacts with the mixture.Continue to reflux for an additional 10 minutes after the last of the bromine has been added. ? The color of your final solution should be a very pale yellow. If the red-orange color persists after the 10 min, add cyclohexene dropwise (1-2 mL) until the red color disappears. ? Remove the reaction flask and cool it in an ice bath for 10 minutes with a greased stopper on top. Allow the product, 2,3-dibromo-3-phenylpropanoic acid, to crystallize. ? Meanwhile, disassemble the rest of the reflux apparatus and sit it in the back of your hood to allow the fumes to dissipate.Rinse the glassware with a small amount of sodium thiosulfate to destroy any remaining bromine. ? Collect the crystalline product by suction-filtration, and rinse with a minimal amount of ice-cold methylene chloride. Allow it to air-dry and record the mass and melting range of the product. Have your instructor check the weight of your product and initial this value in your lab notebook. Save all of your product as it is the starting material for next week. STEREOCHEMISTRY: Addition Of Bromine To trans-Cinnamic Acid DATA SHEET NAME: Section Number: Overall Reaction (including stereochemistry, Symyx Draw): Mass of acid: Theo mmol product: mmol of acid:Theo mass product: Volume of Br2 solââ¬â¢n: Mass recovered product: mmol of Br2: mmol recovered product: % yield of product: Melting point of recovered product: Literature melting point: Calculations: (notebook) Post Lab Questions 1. What is the stereochemical relationship between Isomer I and Isomer II? 2. Use perspective drawings, Fischer Projections and words, to demonstrate whether syn addition of bromine to trans-cinnamic acid results in Isomer I or Isomer II. Repeat the process for anti addition. NOTE CAREFULLY:The question is about mode of addition (syn vs. anti), not mechanisms; do not use curved arrows to explain your answer.3.Based on your results, did the addition occur by a syn or anti mode? Explain your reasoning. 4. Provide the ââ¬Å"electron-pushingâ⬠mechanism for this reaction and show how both enantiomers are produced. Use perspective representations to draw structures. Assign the R / S configuration to each stereocenter in the products. 5. Using perspective drawings with the correct stereochemistry, redraw the pair of enantiomers you drew in question 4 and show how each can be redrawn as the Fischer projection of Isomer I, Isomer II, or the enantiomer. Clearly label all stereocenters as R or S. 6. Show the products of the following electrophilic addition reactions (symyxdraw):

Ronald Reagan Life Span
Introduction On Feb. 6, 1911 a child named Ronald Wilson Reagan was born in a small town, Tampico, Illinois. His parents are the late Nelle Wilson and John (ââ¬Å"Jackâ⬠) Reagan. Ronald grew up with one brother by the name of Neil (ââ¬Å"Moonâ⬠) Reagan. The Reagans moved quite a few times throughout Ronaldââ¬â¢s childhood before settling down in Dixon Illinois. Although Reagan Majored in Sociology and Economics, his love was in entertainment. In 1936 he accepted a position with the radio station WHO in Des Moines, Iowa as a sports caster. Only a year later, Reagan went on to Hollywood in Los Angeles, California to establish his acting career. His acting career lasted 25 years. Reagan became known for his political abilities in 1964 when he preformed a television speech that supported Senator Barry Goldwaterââ¬â¢s campaign for presidency. Although Goldwater lost, the speech was moving none the less. After the speech was delivered, a group of Republicans in California approached Reagan and convinced him to run in the 1966 election for the seat of governor of California. Reagan beat out Democrat Edmund G. Brown, his opponent, by nearly a million votes. In the Race for presidency in 1980 Reganââ¬â¢s opponent was Jimmy Carter. Carterââ¬â¢s nervous mannerisms were no match for Reganââ¬â¢s charm and public appeal. Carter's 41% of votes was dwarfed by Reaganââ¬â¢s 51%. Reagan became known as ââ¬Å"the great communicator. â⬠Reagan became the 40th President of the United States of America. Reagan spoke out publicly against federal regulatory agencies, expensive social programs, and government bureaucracy. He was a public speaker and advocate of the middle class. However, he also thought the government had too much control and influence over businesses. Psychological Influences His father was an Irish-American. His father was a shoe salesman by trade. Reaganââ¬â¢s mother was Scotts-Irish. Reagan didnââ¬â¢t care much for his name Ronald so he went by ââ¬Å"Dutchâ⬠, a nickname that very well could have come from his father saying he looked like a fat Dutch boy. Reaganââ¬â¢s mother was a huge advocate for the needy. She also supported efforts for prohibition. She thought that alcohol was a moral decay of the family fabric. This was more than likely because Reaganââ¬â¢s father was an alcoholic. Be that as it may, Nelle always supported Jack and never chastised him for what she classified as his ââ¬Å"sicknessâ⬠. Reagan seemed to have such an empathetic mother. She seems to be so supportive of his father as well as the rest of the family. Even though she had personal ideological disagreements with the way that Jack was living his life, Nelle had compassion and stood by Jack with emotion; showing a good moral environment for her children. Support Structure Systems Reagan was antisocial as a child and didnââ¬â¢t have many friends. The Reaganââ¬â¢s were a tightly knit unit. However, Reagan did write in his memoirs an entry along the lines of Dixon being a small town in which everyone had a sense of community for one another. It was a place where people helped others in need. This is very important because this could allude to an opinion of Reaganââ¬â¢s genuine concern for others. Reagan, at the age of 11, became very devout in religion. He aspired to become a Disciple of Christ and became baptized by a Disciple of Christ. Throughout his life, Reagan constantly remained vigilant in his religious endeavors. He believed in God and he believed in brotherhood. Through these two powerful belief structures, Reagan received support from within that he needed to pursue endeavors throughout his life. Neither of Reaganââ¬â¢s parents possessed a formal education. For this reason they were very concerned that their children did well in school. Despite Nelle and Jackââ¬â¢s efforts, Reaganââ¬â¢s interest wasnââ¬â¢t as much on education, as it was on sports. However, this gave him a substantial structure through his teammates on his football team. Although his educational goals gave him an early start for college and eventually for his major in economics and sociology, he also gained an important support foundation from making friends and becoming social in sports. Nelle and Jack were advocates of equal opportunity and encouraged cultural growth. On many occasions they invited Ronaldââ¬â¢s multicultural friends into their home for social gatherings. Personality Theories Some people argue that Reagan was an Introvert merely because he was an actor previous to his career as a politician. An introvert is someone who is concerned primarily with one's own thoughts and feelings rather than with the external environment (dictionary. com). Most people become actors because they are shy and sensitive people. They are often insecure people who find difficulties expressing themselves. Some people would argue that Reagan had script writers that aided his abilities to be so charismatic. Some Introverted People resort to acting because being onstage is an out for them and a way for them to be extroverted when they can find no other means to do so. On the contrary, many people claim that Reagan was an extrovert due to his jocularity and ability to communicate very well. Extroversion is the tendency to be sociable, active, and willing to take risks (Kowalski & Western, 2005). Reagan displayed the ability to charm a crowd seemingly with no effort. Reagan was forthcoming, energetic, and open like most extroverted individuals. Extroverts tend to want to be continuously moving. Extroverts thrive on different activities, be it either physical or mental. Extroverts likewise gain their energy from their surroundings. An extrovertââ¬â¢s environment stimulates them greatly such as Reagan seemed to be from his. Best Match/Conclusion In 1921 a Swiss Psychoanalyst, Dr. Jung, coined the terms introvert and extrovert. He believed that people are born with these two innate attitudes. He believed that everyone possesses these two attitudes but favors one more so than the other. According to Dr. Jungââ¬â¢s research an introvert focuses on their feelings, emotions, and Ideas as an extrovert focuses on heavy doses of social stimulation. A research study was conducted at Berkeley and the results found online at berkeley. edu revealed that Reagan could be ranked as a disparate conservative. Other disparate conservatives that were ranked in the study with Reagan were Hitler and Mussolini. The Study believes that theses three individuals express the same traits. The traits that were observed were fear, aggression, dogmatism, intolerance of ambiguity, uncertainty, avoidance, need for cognitive closure and terror management. Many psychoanalysts associate a close relativity between extroversion with conservatives. According to Dr. Salvatore Didato, Ph. D. , Reagan is an extrovert (St. Petersburg Evening Independent 1985). By looking at Reaganââ¬â¢s jocular approach to his speeches and his constant drive for attention as well as combining this with the research findings of the Berkeley study, I agree. I believe that Reagan thrived on the support and attention of the public to satisfy his feelings of self fulfillment. References Introvert. Cat Eye Syndrome
Cat Eye syndrome Cat eye syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder that may be plain to see at birth. The name ââ¬Å"cat eye syndromeâ⬠comes from a distinctive abnormality in the eye that is shown in some affected people. This feature consists of partial absence of ocular tissue often affecting both eyes. Affected ocular tissues may include the colored region, the middle layer, and/or the innermost membrane of the eye. Individuals with cat eye syndrome frequently have coloboma(s) (which is a structural defect of the eye), down slanting eyelid folds, widely spaced eyes and/or other ocular defects.Discovery and cause: This disorder was discovered in 1898. In individuals with cat eye syndrome, the short arm and a small region of the long arm of chromosome 22 are present three or four times rather than twice in cells of the body. Symptoms: * Partial absence of the tissue pertaining to the eye * Mild or moderate mental retardation * Cat-like, downward slanting opening * Malformations of the facial and the skull region * Eyes are widely spaced Inherited: As cat eye syndrome is an inherited genetic disorder, it occurs by birth. The defect can arise from either parent, as it can be transmitted through both sexes. The person is diagnosed considering the symptoms present in the body. Treatment: Treatment is given according to the severity of the symptoms. Patients with short stature are givenà growth hormone therapy. Miscellaneous: A recent study suggests that cat eye syndrome affects 1 in about 74000 people, making this a pretty rare disorder. This chromosomal disorder can occur in both, males and females. In many cases, individuals are born with this syndrome because it is prevalent in their families.

Social Care Theory for Practice
SOCIAL CARE THEORY FOR PRACTICE (OUTCOME 1) ASSESSMENT 1(1500 words approx. ) (12th October 2012) Coco J Hendry Page 1Introduction Page 2 ââ¬â 5Assessment Page6Conclusion Page 7Reference/Bibliography 1 The following essay will demonstrate my understanding of the importance and relevance of values to social care by explaining how social care values and principles influence practice. I will then explain what relationship my value base has with social care values.I will offer and explanation of my understanding of the term anti-discriminatory practice and provide some examples of how I would apply this in a social care setting. I will outline the legislation, which underpins anti-discriminatory practice and how this would influence my own practice. 2 All care workers require recognising the importance of the two core values for care practice as suggested by ââ¬Å"Janet Miller and Susan Gibb Care in Practice 2nd edition 2007â⬠the value of respect for the worth of dignity of ev ery individual. he value of according social justice and promoting the social welfare of every individual. Adopting and implementing these values recognises that each individual service user needs are met socially, physically, emotionally, cognitively without stereotyping, pre-judging or discriminating the service user, according to ââ¬Å"Janet Miller and Susan Gibb Care in Practice 2nd edition 2007â⬠The two core values appear to be paramount to both the service user and carer. It becomes clear that the application of the two core values enables the service user to realise their full potential and advocates promoting social welfare of each individual. Because of the carer, applying the values without doubt contributes the principles of social care values achieved; ââ¬Å"Social care values are underpinned by the principles of dignity, privacy, choice, safety, realise full potential and equality and diversityâ⬠www. sssc. com My own values were primarily because of my fami ly and my social surroundings. The social skills and values adopted at an early age enabled me to progress through school, social groups and friends. Adopting secondary values, shaped by culture, rules and values particular to social influences and settings Some aspects of the secondary values are an indication that as a member of a civilised society, the expectations is to conform and adhere to certain rules, regulation, and share the same opinion as my peers, not unlike the social care values. My values have been changed and evolved from all areas of my life, but the values learned from my family when younger have laid the foundations for what I deem ââ¬Ëacceptable' and ââ¬Ëunacceptable' This is called primary socialisation. My family were 3 my primary socialisation, they taught me what was ââ¬Ëright' or ââ¬Ëwrong' and what an acceptable way to behave or conduct myself was and what was unacceptable. Although my values have changed with time these basic values learned fro m my family have remained. My own values along with the social care values and principles will enable me approach all service users as individuals in a professional, competent manner. However diverse or multicultural we may be doesnââ¬â¢t always mean we are diverse and considerate in our approach to specific groups, cultures, religions, etc Having been subjected to direct/indirect prejudicesââ¬â¢, I am mindful to consider all members of society and strive not prejudge people, and to avoid discrimination at all cost.Certain standards are expected in a standards expected of social care workers that were first published in the ââ¬Å"Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001â⬠A key standard underpinning social care is ââ¬Ëanti discriminatory practiceââ¬â¢ which means that as a social care worker I should not treat anybody differently regardless of their, gender, sexuality, age, disability, political, religious spiritual beliefs. It is important as a social careworker to c onsider if I have any values or opinions that could be considered as prejudiced.Having an opinion of a certain individual or group based on hearsay, stereotypes or assumptions and without knowing them personally is a prejudice. As stated in ââ¬Å"HNC Social Care (2009) by Bingham et al ââ¬Å"Prejudices can be categorised into personal prejudices, cultural prejudices and societal/structural prejudicesâ⬠and although some prejudices could be considered positive to some people, most prejudices are negative and if acted upon will result in discrimination. Social care is an integral part of any society; practice and legislation are a fundamental part of our society and social services.Promoting and applying the Codes of Practice and principles aims to educate care workers, providers and 4 service users. Anti-discrimination laws and acts such as the Equality Act 2010 and the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 enable us to aware of legislation and the need to adhere to the codes of conduct which regulate the social care profession. Working in a social care environment would require me to regularly review my own personal values or opinions and to consider at all times the social care values and codes.Keeping up to date with current legislation would ensure I am compliant, not prejudging or stereotyping service users. It is also important to reflect and consider whether I could have approached a similar situation differently with a certain individual compared to others, and if there was any differences why? Having personally experienced discrimination, I appreciate the negative effects discrimination can have on an individual and understand the importance and application of anti-discrimination laws and legislation. The SSSC have an extensive literature called ââ¬Ëinduction guidance for social care workers in Scotlandâ⬠.This literature includes the principles and values expected of social care workers but also makes clear the relevant legislation that is specific to my role to assist me in implementing ââ¬Ëanti discriminatory practiceâ⬠, such legislation includes; * Disability Discrimination Act 1995 * Human Rights Act 1998 * Sex Discrimination Act 1975 * Race Relations Act 1976 and 2000 It is important to review such legislation as what I may consider to be only an opinion that is harmless and inoffensive to all may actually be considered as discriminatory 5 by others whether direct or indirect discrimination.Direct discrimination is easily identifiable and blunt, using race discrimination as an example direct discrimination in a social care setting would be someone of a different cultural or ethnical background being treated less favourably than someone of the same culture who may share similar society/structural beliefs. Indirect discrimination is less direct but equally offensive, an example of indirect discrimination in a social care setting would be a social care provider ignoring religious and cultural beliefs by expe cting a ââ¬Ëmuslimââ¬â¢ service user to eat during the daylight hours at Ramadan.Although the legislation does not state each individual requirement of a certain group or individual, it does make it more than clear what is unacceptable. According to ââ¬Å"Bingham et al (HNC Social Care Scotland)2009â⬠these legislative guidelines promote positive practice across the sector and also empower workers to ensure they are supported to carry out their duties with robust policies and proceduresâ⬠. By adhering to the SSCC codes of practice and also regularly reviewing relevant laws surrounding discrimination I should be more than equipped to deliver ââ¬Ëanti-discriminatory social care ââ¬Ë. From my essay, you will see I have studied the values and principles that influence practice. In view of this, I now have a clearer understanding of my own values as well as the social care values and principles recognising and realising the overall impact they have when applied in a social care environment. In a professional capacity, it is crucial that social service workers are protected and regulated by the Codes of Conduct. The codes are a clear guide of the standards required to work in a social care environment. The codes of practice and principles provides employees, employers and service users a with clear set of standards, ensuring regulation and guidelines are applied in a consistent, compassionate manner. Regulation and consistency in the application of the Codes of Conduct and principles throughout the care profession will result in the service users being provided with the appropriate choices and services they require. In my opinion, being able to make informed choices regardless of age, gender, disability, sexuality, religion, etc. n a safe environment by care workers who have empowered them to realise their full potential is possible when all aspects of personal and social care values, laws and legislation are applied. 7 REFERENCES/BIBLIOGRAPHY Janet Miller and Susan Gibbà Care in Practice 2nd edition 2007 Publisher:à Hodder Arnold, (2ndà edition 2007). M4-A2 -OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT - Essay Example Physical control and information generation enables the lenders to reduce the financial risks and uncertainties in the global supply chains. Risk mitigation ensures effective generation of capital. A report published by the Aberdeen Group in 2008, 58% of multinationals suffered financial losses in 2007 due to disruptions in the global supply paths. Supply chains disruption sat the global level were caused by mostly financial and political instabilities. There is also the risk associated with forecasting errors that result in overstocks or inventory shortfalls (Welborn & Kasten, 2007). Increased financial losses impact negatively on companyââ¬â¢s operations. Companies usually scale down their production processes as a result of financial constraints. Decreased production leads to reduced supplies in the global market. The customers experience reduced sat6isfaction, if supply of products is limited. Forecasting errors leads to poor prediction of market requirements. This leads to low levels of customer satisfaction. The threats lead to low profits margins of companies. For instance, the financial threats leads to low sales levels hence reduced profits. Low profit margins lowers the operation levels of the company, hence low production of products to meet global market requirements. Inadequate commodities in the market, leads customers to purchase substitute products, or products of competitors. Forecasting errors leads to wastages of resources, especially during overproduction. This can drive companies to high loss levels (Manuj & Meotez, 2008). An effective selection criteria should adopted so as to assess a global supply chain partners on issues like quality, quality, geographical presence, and reliability. Certain logistic service providers should be outsourced. This ensures risk reduction and appropriate adoption of innovation; for instance, adopting information technology solutions (Welborn & Kasten, 2007). Global supply chains that

Financial Control - Essay Example It is mainly a measurement framework that adjoins measures that are not financial to conventional financial methods to offer a balanced feature of organizational performance. However, there has been a disbelief of this system in implementing it in small-medium manufacturing enterprise (SME). The disbelief concludes that Balanced Scorecard requires an organization with an advanced strategic planning process to realize its whole benefits. In demystifying that idea, this paper digs into the feasibility of applying the Balanced Scorecard process in the small-medium manufacturing enterprises (SMEs), its prospective benefits, the principal management process and the application of costing systems in SMEs. Introduction Businesses always establish a strategic planning that has connection with the performance of the business. This means that for a business to develop there must be growth in the planning of strategies to realize a better management system. It is at this point that essential st rategic management tools must be applied to a business (Brown, 2007, p.5). One of the tools in management processes of strategic planning is the Balanced Scorecard. However, it is important to understand that large organizations often exude a series of challenges in the application of the Balanced Scoreboard. This is because of the extensive coordination, communication and regulations operations in the organizations. The complex nature of large organizations always entangles the institutions in complex organizational operations that make it hard for the Balanced Scorecard to produce effectiveness (Biazzo & Garengo, 2012, p.40). The Application of balanced Scorecard system in SMEs SMEs always have similar objectives, missions and concerns in their operations. Primarily, the strategic management tenets of these SMEs are numerous. However, the crucial ones include the direction where the organization is headed. This is important since it challenges the SME on the achievements of the fi rm after a stipulated period of time. The other is the managerââ¬â¢s ability to understand business models. It is important to have a manager who is circumspect on the application of business models to maximize profits without exploiting consumers. The final one is the agility of the SME to adapt to new strategic management planning tools in the improvement of the enterprise. Lastly, an SME should be flexible to integrate fresh knowledge and skills into its strategic planning process (Blokdijk, 2008, p.10). Perspectives By digging into these issues, one realizes that there is a common goal of identifying, pursuing and achieving strategic goals and objectives. This is the recipe for the success of the SMEsââ¬â¢ performance and fulfilling their stakeholdersââ¬â¢ expectations. The realization of the strategic goals is achievable by using four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard as a component of a strategic management framework in an SME. These perspectives help the SME in viewing the organization in a broader way to execute the collection of data, analysis and development of financial metrics in the SME (Blokdijk, 2008, p.11). The first perspective is the learning and growth perspective. This perspective entails the training of employees in an organization integrated with the corporate cultural attitudes of improving oneself. It is important for the employees to acquire knowledge through training and developing of their attitude since they are the holders of knowledge in the

Visual Media - Essay Example There is no overt action. The man is gently touching the woman as he finds her desirable and the woman is coyly maintaining certain distance. She appears hesitant as if she is trying something new. The first time look is evident on her face. These tactics have been deliberately employed to convey that while with Romance, you can have romance; it will be love and not just sex. This subtle differentiation between sex and romance has given the ad its classy value. The second message you get is that RL Romance is not for everyone. It's not a common-folks item. It is meant for people with certain tastes and this is evident from the clothing of the two models, however little they are wearing. The white clothing, the stylishly done hair and the serious expression on the face of the female model are done to maintain certain distance from the audience. It is not an-everyone perfume and it has to be portrayed as such. The moment the two models share is something private and is in complete contrast with the light flirtatious moment shared by the two models in CK ad (discussed below). This ad is employing propaganda by different techniques with most prominent being Scarlet Johansson's presence. The woman represents a variety of things including being a young, talented and sexy star. Using a star in an advertisement lends immense power to the brand without requiring any real proof. People are likely to think that since Scarlet Johansson is using this perfume, may be I should to. It has the testimonial value as well as the bandwagon value. Scarlet is 'cool, chic and happening' and if you want to be like her, use Eternity Moment. The ad uses a simple line too that says, "A moment can change everything". Indirectly the audience is being told that they should not underestimate the value of each moment while highlighting the significance of the product's name. the audience is also being reminded of the value of being prepared. In an important moment, if you are wearing the right perfume, that can change everything. Now this may or may not be true. But the ad takes it f or granted that we believe it to be true. Again like Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein is also a well-known brand. Definitely the perfume may not be used by the common folks but the ad gives you a feeling that it can be or rather should be used by everyone who wants to turn an ordinary moment into something exceptional. Capturing Johansson with a girlish grin on her face gives the ad a common-folks value. She appears genuinely happy like any ordinary girl in love. Most women would be able to connect with her and the expansive of her happy soul. The model is having a pleasant experience and this is something everyone can relate to. The same could not be said of the Ralph Lauren ad that maintains a certain stiffness of manner to exude class and sophistication. Interesting both these advertisements lack color. They are done in black and white with a hint of color in the perfume bottle. This color is almost non-existent in RL Romance ad while it is

To what extent are a company's annual report and accounts useful in Essay - 1
To what extent are a company's annual report and accounts useful in understanding and analysing its market, productive and fi - Essay Example Other than the owners, there are other internal and external parties who need to study final reports and accounts of a business like the management body, investors, creditors, government agencies, labour unions and tax authorities. This paper discusses the usefulness of annual reports in understanding a companyââ¬â¢s market, production and financial performances. Rules of accounts The final reports and accounts of a business enterprise are prepared by the directors whose primary responsibility is to provide a ââ¬Å"true and fair view of the state of the companyââ¬â¢s financial position and resultsâ⬠2 at the end of a financial year. In every country there is the Companies Act that provides directions, rules and regulations regarding the format and content of the final accounts that need to be strictly followed. The final reports and accounts are comprised of profit and loss account, balance sheet, cash flow statement, statement of total recognised profit and loss, note on historical cost profit and losses, activities done with funds of the shareholders, notes to the accounts.3 Together these form the financial statements of a business enterprise and they reflect the strength of market relationship, productivity and financial position of the business, and whether it has the ability to sustain and develop in the competitive market in the long run. The profit and loss account which is also known as the income statement provides a summary of the activities of a business and the financial achievements in a particular financial year. It provides information about the ââ¬Å"sales or turnover, operating expenses, exceptional items, interest payments, taxation charges and dividends paid and proposed.â⬠4 Although the profit and loss is prepared in a prescribed format, it is designed in a manner that meets the information needs of the management.5 An example of a published profit and loss account of Pickers PLC is shown in Fig.1. Fig.1: Profit and loss ac count for the year ended 31 March 2003 ?000s ?000s Turnover 20,300 Cost of sales (13,850) Gross profit (or loss) 6,450 Distribution costs (2,314) Administration expenses (1,424) (3,738) Operating profit 2,712 Income from other fixed asset assessment investments 125 2,837 Interest payable and similar charges (813) Profit (or loss) on ordinary activities before taxation 2,024 Users of accounts The main purpose of financial statements is to ââ¬Å"reveal the results and financial position of the business.â⬠For this purpose in every business organization final accounts are prepared at the end of every financial year.6 In a business enterprise, it is not only the owners, shareholders or the management body who need to study the final reports and accounts but there are other internal and external parties who have equal rights to know about the financial condition and stability of the company for variable reasons. These parties are investors, employees, lenders, suppliers and other c reditors, customers, government and their agencies, and the public. Investors are those people or organizations that take risks by investing their monies to buy shares of a company. In

Why is graduate study important at this time in your life Essay
Why is graduate study important at this time in your life - Essay Example As an initial matter, I am vested with many supervisory and training responsibilities. I am directly responsible for training staff in routine clerical and administrative matters. My function is to ensure that these staff members are familiar with Department of Transportation policy and able to accomplish the purposes of our office. In addition to initial training, I continue to supervise these workers and keep them up-to-date with changes in policy and duties. In addition, my job requires a great deal of planning. This involves the delegation of assignments, matching personnel to work projects, and evaluating alternative courses of action for certain work projects and assignments. Another important aspect of my job involves the need to keep detailed and comprehensive reports and records. As a state agency, these are important and time-consuming responsibilities. I prepare charts, tables and reports and enter them into our computer program for evaluation by my superiors. I maintain the agency manual, the electronic tracking system, and make modifications when necessary. The final aspect of my job is related to a more generalized administrative support function. ... This is because I believe that I have completed the previous steps in my educational and professional career that are necessary for graduate study to become both more meaningful and more necessary. In addition, I believe that I have exhausted a great many challenges thus far in my professional life, and that it is time to expand my theoretical knowledge and to prepare myself more full for additional challenges and opportunities. Really, there couldn't be a better time for me to pursue graduate study. I earned my BA in Business Administration from Baruch College back in 2001, and I have updated my professional skills and work experience over the past five years. I have, for example, completed an income tax course through H&R Block, became a notary public and joined the Notary Public Association, improved my technical and computer software skills, and worked closely with many experienced workers and supervisors at the New York Department of Transportation. I have, in sum, developed a more comprehensive theoretical background to a variety of substantive and administrative issues, and also attained a wealth of work experience. I am familiar with many successful methods of operation and also aware of certain shortcomings which need improvements or different approaches. Based on the foregoing, I believe that I am at the perfect stage of development for graduate study. This is because I have the experience to value the knowledge, the interactions, and the opportunities offered by graduate study. I will enter as a graduate study with real-world experience, with questions to ask and consider, and with an understanding of how these issues play out in the real world.

Child care - Essay Example Another weakness of mine is not being very orderly with my things. Sometimes, it doesnââ¬â¢t bother me anymore having cluttered books, pens, etc. around me. Lastly, I think I also need to learn to be more wise in my spending habits. I have the tendency to be an impulsive shopper especially when I find novel materials. One goal is to develop healthy work relationships with my co-workers and the parents of my students. Being surrounded with little children all the time makes me happy, but I also need to relate with other adults who may be able to give me wise advise in developing effective teaching strategies. I would also need their friendship and support as a colleague who understands the same things I go through in my work. As a teacher, I would also need to develop warm and congenial relationships with the parents of my students, as it is one of my beliefs that parents and teachers should work hand-in-hand to help the child reach his full potential. Parents are considered partners in education for a better future. Another goal for me is to pursue excellence in my craft. That includes making more effort to improve on my areas of weaknesses. Being tardy may reflect that I take my work and the people there for granted. Especially with young children, they would need a dependable teacher to be with them when they arrive in school. Being a messy teacher will only impart negative influences in the students, as they can model this behavior themselves and think that is the way things should be. Being an impulsive shopper would also put emphasis on a need to resort to buying new things instead of re-using or recycling old, available, inexpensive materials. It will not foster resourcefulness and self-restraint. To be able to fulfill my goal of developing healthy interpersonal relationships at work would require that I initiate social contacts with people. I would make it a point to give attention to the people at

Inactivity and Obesity Essay Example for Free
Inactivity and Obesity Essay Review the article ââ¬Å"Physical activity and sedentary activity patterns among children and adolescents: A latent class analysis approachâ⬠for this assignment. As individuals and families spend more time in front of televisions, playing video games, surfing the internet, etc., incidence and prevalence rates of overweight and obese people in throughout the world increase. Based on the article, describe family, community, and school level strategies you would use in planning an obesity prevention program. The following items in particular will be assessed: 1. Identify two specific strategies (family, community, or school level) you would use to plan an obesity prevention program. Include evidence-based information as to why you believe these strategies will be the best ones to use. 2. In your opinion, when should obesity prevention start? What should be the ideal age to start obesity prevention, knowing that lifestyle has a great impact on whether individuals will become obese? 3. Provide empirical evidence to support your position as to when obesity prevention should start. Make sure to cite your sources. Introduction Studies of the health behavior of healthy individuals and families are closely correlated since without the support of a family, an individual would not prosper in healthy behaviors. This example hit close to home since there was someone at home always trying to gear my brother, sister, and myself in the right way. This might not be the case for other families and they might have different types of issues that are involved in the studies of health behavior of individuals and families. Human behavior plays a central role in the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease. Issues Involved Some of the issues involved in the studies of the health behavior of healthy individuals and families are the different strategies for establishing healthy eating habits in children and adolescents might be quite ineffective for changing maladaptive eating behaviors. This seems to be a major issue with families of all types of financial background. The majority of individuals that lack the monetary resource to buy healthier food choices seem to be at riskiest end. Also, maintaining a particular behavior over time might require different strategies than will establishing behavior. Studies Accomplished/Reasons they are Important Studies can be accomplished through different age groups and addressing certain behaviors cues associated with healthy families and individuals. For example, one might ask a teenage group if they have ever tried smoking or drinking. From this study, they can find out information concerning the individual behavior and why it is not conducive to healthy family behaviors. Two examples of studies accomplished from the reading are classical conditioning and operant-conditioning which each has its own way of learning behaviors. For example, classical conditioning modifies behavior by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus that elicits the desired response. This type of learning behavior is important it allows the studies to see what mechanisms triggers different people to behave a certain way. One of the most famous classical conditioning was taught in a previous class that mentioned the salivation of dog in response to a bell being rung. The reason behind this was that every time individual brought in food for the dog, they would ring a bell. Later, they found out that just the ringing alone would set of excitement in the dog. This is important because we find out what triggers an individualââ¬â¢s happiness and with little help, their behavior can be geared towards a healthier one. In individuals, if someone is praised on how well they look and that they are maintaining their bodies well, the compliments alone can trigger an individual to want more praises, thus maintaining a great physique. The second type of study conducted was the operant-conditioning which builds on classical conditioning and focuses on the hypothesis that the frequency of a behavior is determined by its consequences. One example would be that of rewards for positive behavior as well as decreasing behavior from punishment. If an individual, gets praises for cleaning their room and is told that if they discontinue cleaning their room, they will make their parents disappointed, that individual might not want the negative responses thus making them decrease their negative behaviors. Contribution to Existing Knowledge These studies contribute to the existing knowledge by showing us that health behaviors can be changed by the way we treat each other. Also, with the studies, we are able to see how an individualââ¬â¢s health behavior can be controlled by praises and can also eliminate negative behavior by adding negative consequences.

Suicide Rates Statistics Analysis In India Sociology Essay
Suicide Rates Statistics Analysis In India Sociology Essay World Health Organization Assistant Director-General Catherine Le Gals-Camus finds that more people around the world die from suicide than other causes. 1. According to Dr Anuradha Bose, associate professor in pediatrics who also works for the CMCs department of community health, suicide is the third largest single cause of death among Indian youth between the ages of 15-19. One in every three cases of suicide in India is committed by people due to academic pressure. 2. A suicide is reported in India every 15 minutes and it is believed that there are many more cases of suicides that are not reported, so the actual number is very high. 3. Kerala, the state with the highest literacy rate in all of India also has the highest suicide rate which is an alarming factor for academic pressure. 4. The average suicide rate in India is 103 per 100,000 people compared with the worldwide average of 14.5 suicides per 100,000 people. 6. More than 100,000 people commit suicide in India every year and 3 people a day take their own lives in Mumbai. The rate of suicide among females in India is close to three times that of males. The average rate for suicide among males in India is 58 for every 100,000 and 148 for every 100,000 women. This is contradicting to the situation in other parts of the world where the rate of suicides is high among men rather than women. Females, in contrast to males, characteristically are more open to ask for medical help and to communicate their anxieties and fears to significant others. Males tend to be acutely aware of feelings of sexual inadequacy or inadequacy of masculinity and believe it shameful to communicate such feelings. This seems to hold true for college-age males and females as well as adolescents. POSSIBLE REASONS Although the reasons for suicide in students are likely as varied as the people who commit them, there are some primary reasons for the high suicide rate in India. Here are some of the most common reasons for committing suicide in India. 1. Pressure to perform: In this modern age, from the moment the child is born, hes brought up in a very competitive fashion. They are under tremendous pressure to deliver at schools well as sports and for competitive examinations. Parents and society expect a lot from the children and the pressure to perform is high. A lot of students contemplate suicide because they could not achieve the good scores expected by their parents. 2. Family conflict, including domestic violence: India is losing the support that has traditionally come from the joint family system, as many couples now opt to live on their own, away from the rest of the family. There is less bonding and interaction with the family members and the feeling of neglect make the children feel unwanted and they get depressed. 3. Ragging: In few cases, ragging in colleges has been found reason for suicide in their first year. The emotional and humiliating treatment that the seniors give the juniors, make them want to forget everything by ending their lives. 4. Copy-Cat: Another explanation for the high teenage suicide rate was copy-cat suicides where children read about suicides in newspapers and decide to do the same thing themselves. There have been many incidents where children try to imitate suicides scenes from movies for fun and end up getting killed 5. Virtual Lifestyle: These days children are hooked to videogames and computer. The internet can be considered as boon or bane. Children have been sucked into the virtual world and they have been so addicted to it that they find it hard to live in the real world. This has led to many suicides as they have not been able to become normal again The factors responsible behind the student suicide are quite different from other suicides like found in elders. The few trends have been observed in a survey in educational institutes across in US. Out of 2402 students, 1078 (45.8%) had psychological problems, half (1201 students) perceived problems in their role as students, 930 (45%) reported academic decline, 180 (8.82%) students reported that life was a burden, 122 (6%) reported suicidal ideas and 8 (0.39%) students reported suicidal attempt. There was significant correlation between students perception of life as a burden and class they were studying, mothers working status, psychological problems and problems students experienced in relation to study, peers, future planning and with parents. Risk Factors Biological Clues: Family history of mental illness including depression, puberty, cognitive impairments, disability, chronic illness, substance abuse, anxiety, mood disorders and conduct disorder Sociological: Contagion, peer pressure, family conflicts, drug and alcohol abuse, other abuse, academic pressures; expectations of school, family and self; break-up in a relationship, interpersonal losses, legal or disciplinary issues, bullying/harassment, negative social environment, victimization experiences Psychological: Negative self-talk like Im no good or I am not worthy; poor distress tolerance, poor resiliency, poor interpersonal problem-solving, black and white thinking, previous suicide attempt Existential: failure to see the good in the world, hopelessness: Whats the point its not going to change Communication The addressing of this social problem can be divided in two types- Proactive- Raising awareness among the students community at large at not to feel depressed and communicating that suicide is not an end to problems. Reactive This communication for those who need help right at the moment. As suicide tendency is very ephemeralà tendencies quite some time. If the patient can be counseled right at the moment than suicide can be avoided. I would propose an integrated communication plan across the channels as they have different reach and richness. Before going deeper we have to select the central communication idea for the campaign. As the basic problem is depression due to some failure , the value of life should be shown in all the campaign. The central idea can be Life is to live and not to end. You can end you life, not problems. The creative brief can be framed around what the chetan bhagat has mentioned in a address to students to a university- Dont be serious, be sincere. This quote has defined my work ever since. Whether its my writing, my job, my relationships or any of my goals. I get thousands of opinions on my writing every day. There is heaps of praise, there is intense criticism. If I take it all seriously, how will I write? Or rather, how will I live?à Life is not to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? Its ok, bunk a few classes, goof up a few interviews, fall in love. We are people, not programmed devices. Mass communication- This can be divided further in different execution ideas- Movies: Few movies and documentary can be made which showcases the people who sometimes were depressed and thought of doing suicide have fought against the problem and become successful. The recently released film 3 idiots portrays such a character in which a brilliant student commits suicide due to failure in the exams. Textbooks:- Last page of text books can be devoted to such na motivationall stories about the people who did not do well in studies but able to make the histories in their field. People like Sachin Tendulkar , Bill gates , Mark Zukerberg who are college drop outs can be cited to make sure that text book and exams are not the end in itself. Newspapers:- The stories of committing suicide should not be given prime importance as it may promote the copycat to further to take the path. Society should not sympathize with the people who commit suicide as it gives a signal to potential person to reach that destination. Counseling: Every college should have time to time personal interaction with their students and family members on their academic performance and behavioral changes if any. Research shows that timely personal counseling is the most successful factor in preventing suicide cases. If needed, a professional psychologist can be sought for effective counseling. The counseling should be extended to parents and teachers. They also have to be educated that not every child can be best at everything and they have to find out their childs interest. Recently released movie Taree Zameen Par showcases this that every child is good at something and we have to nurture their interest rather than imposing their will on the students. Some psychologist suggests that parents drives the things which they were not able to do during their times through their child an in this process they go beyond the capabilities of the child. The overall personality of a student should be other parameter like sports and art also in students morale boosting. Help Line- Various help line is set up across the world who help the person who are depressed and counseling. Few of the most popular one are as below- http://www.samaritansofboston.org/ You are not alone. http://www.befrienders.org/ A helpline in Mumbai, called Aasra, has been operating for several years to tackle the problem. Connect to Young kids- Face book page Fight Against Growing Teenage SUICIDES having 768 likes In January Samaritans hosts an annual memorial service open to all suicide survivors. Dr. Anuradha Bose has begun a program of family life education, which includes information on sex and relationship for high school students which he hopes will help, but he admits its a small start to a big problem. Maharastra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bombay Psychiatry Society (BPS) have launched an intitiative Life is Beautiftul to locate syndromes of depression in child.
